Pressure Support

Used with SIMV mode. It is a set amount of pressure to supplement patient initiated breaths. It is used to help overcome dead air space in the ETT and vent circuit.

When using pressure support with SIMV mode, the assist breaths will raise the airway pressures to the set pressure support amount. This setting defaults to 10 cmH20. If appropriate, pressure support can also be turned off in SIMV mode.
